about me

20200504 Ashlyn Ilg Senior Session-0868.

Hey there! I'm Ashlyn, the hand-letterer behind Custom Lettering by Ash :)

I started my business at 15 years old as a sophomore in high school as something fun to do, and to also use my skill of hand-lettering to create custom & unique items! After replicating hundreds of calligraphy alphabet diagrams from Pinterest, I had taught myself calligraphy and developed a lettering style that I loved and wanted to use to create things for others. I began to incorporate this God-given skill into everything from my notes in history class to posters for school projects, and I became known as "the girl with the handwriting" in my classes and in my school. Soon after, my mom (who runs a successful monogramming and embroidery business) pushed me to open a website, and that was when my hobby turned into profit! My goal in starting my business was to create a shop that would provide fully customizable items that can be made to fit any need, project, or occasion! Custom projects and custom cards are my absolute favorite items to create for clients, and you can see all of my favorites posted to my social media pages! ;)

Over the last 6 years, my business has grown so much larger than I could have possibly imagined, and I am so grateful! I have learned to manage being a full-time student with a part-time job, all while keeping my commitments to my clients. In running my small business, I seek to demonstrate Christ's love in all that I do, and bring Him glory in creating items with the gift He has blessed me with for customers worldwide!

Currently, I am a Pharmacy Technician and full-time student at Texas A&M University studying Biology (Gig'em!), planning to attend nursing school in January of 2024. I plan to continue to run & grow my business through my education to procrastinate homework, and I am excited for what is to come!

Thanks for checking out my site! Please feel free to email me at to ask any questions you may have, inquire about a project idea, or just to say hey! I'd love to create something for you & bring your ideas to life!
